Other records show an Israel Jr. being born Oct. 14,1838 per parish of St. Polycarp! In county of Soulange.
His   service records ( story is he fought in US Civil War?) indicate parents were Margaret Garand and Joseph Legros Garand? This could be Isreal Garrah Jr. ?

Could this be connected to second naming of a later born Israel Jr.?

Mr Bolt   Unless otherwise mentionned all the places are in Quebec.
Please note that the easiest date to find, and the most important,  is the mariage which gives information on the parents and also  because of the witness a few clues on the family relations which permit you to verify the accuracy of the next information. The second information  a little harder to find is the birthday which depends on finding the  marriage time, the season of birth (in winter travelling was restricted and sometimes the records was recorded at a other  time or place) and also if the records survived. Death usually means looking through manny years of record. Well that is it for now. Have a nice day
Sincerly yours  Gerard Giroux

Looks good, had a few questions: few related to possible future  follow-on
work, and rest clarification of data shown. I assume all  locations are Canada unless stated as France? Please see/verify my inserts as  shown.
Thanks-Dick

witness: Pierre Gagnon from St John Island, Michel
Garand Mary Ayotte 2. Agnes Gagnon: on marriage certificate her father is named Pierre
Gagnon but Francis Gagnon on her birth certificate (25 august 1827
on Howe Island) and also on the one of her brother Pierre, a witness at the marriage the name of her mother is always  Henriette  LeBelle---Possibly her father's name was Pierre Francis  Gagnon, and he
chose to be called Francis when he was young? Wild guess!

A guess based on detective work. First at the mariage the  witness Pierre  Gagnon. I found a birthday for Pierre Gagnon and also Agnes Gagnon who had has parents Francis Gagnon and Henriette LeBelle. Figuring that  the Howe Island  population at the time was small I guess that the chance that  two Henriette  LeBelle married with two Gagnons one named Peter and the other Francis and  having both children named Agnes and Pierre are very low. source: (microfilm)  Cathedral of Immaculate Conception 1829-1866  Kingston, Howe Island SGO (societe of genealogy of the Outaouais) 73Parents
3. Charles Garand----Father of #1 m. 4 aug 1800, Soulanges, Marguerite St-Jean.----Ca?  On the marriage certificate ( husband ?) is named  Jean-Baptiste Garand, didn't find another mention of this name with this wife afterwards, first ( childs ?) birth in 1802 died at 10 months old the 17 of September 1803.  In  book on Soulanges. Notice that the fathers name is  Jean-Baptiste.  this marriage is mentioned has been celebrated in 1816 or 1817 in the book on mariages in Soulage source: (microfilm) Les Cedres Paroisse St-Joseph de Soulanges  1794-1803 SGO 572  4. Marguerite St-Jean. (sometimes with "dite Martin" at the end of the name)----Mother of #1---What does dite mean?----Any trace  of birth>>place or date? Where from?

"Dites" is sort of a nickname that could mean a certain branch of the  family descendants of a Martin. Sometimes it was used to distinguish between  many persons of the same name in a village. It sometimes refered  to a name, a trade, or a part of village or any other caracteristique  special
that could distinguish a person in a certain area. Usually in  New-France
they dropped this second name or adopted it in place of the  first. In this  case maybe the Martins of Quebec are actually St-Jean at first.
No I did not find the birthday but (I checked the records  which are at this possible time (around 1780) almost impossible to read and found noting)  I forgot to give you the birthplace which if I am not wrong, based on the  residency of the parents at their mariages is Soulages, which is  situated  on the St-Lawrence on the west-south of Montreal not far from  the Ontarian  border. A logical place to move on to Howe Island.
5. Francis Gagnon,----Any trace of birth place or date? Where from?---Father of #2----Does this mean he was new in Country?  Henriette LeBelle *** I checked the records from 1816 to 1826 and noting on the  mariage but  I found Agnes Gagnon and Pierre Gagnon through this research.  From my guess  they where probably one of the first familys of Howe Island.  There mariage  is not to be found in Quebec records also and the Gagnon are one  of most numerouns family in all of Quebec. So I guess maybe they got  married by a  travelling priest and your guess is good as mine to where there would be records, if any of this marriage. Without a marriage is almost  impossible  to find their birthplace at this time.
